About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Scott, Jean, Ben, Juli and Stevie are excitedly preparing for cruising this Fall

Having finally settled on a Beneteau 510 which we just purchased this April. The boat, named "OmarSea" in tribute to Jeans father, will be a perfect classroom to study the world at large.

Home school for the kids begins in November onboard in the Caribbean. Our focus will be learning how to cruise as a family and have fun. From there our journey take us across the Atlantic to Italy and Greece to learn about ancient civilizations, volcanoes and the Mediterranean experience. Returning to the Caribbean for the winter and then on to the South Pacific for real adventure.

We hope you will stay with us on this journey through this website and email over the next 3 years. Who knows maybe you will even visit us in one of these far away tropical paradises.
