About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Big Boy Toys

As Tim Taylor always says " Uuuh Uuuh Uuuh" This is Big Bob. Bob is a 13,000 lb manlift we used to seal the metal roof on the steep east side of the house. Nice to be able to rent just the tool you need be it a jack hammer, a floor sander or Big Bob.

  1. I judge the job by the tools it takes to complete it. Obviously painting the metal roof was a big one on the list. We had to rent this 13,000 lb lift to get at the rear of the house where it was too dangerous to access otherwise. Our challenge was with so much weight on the soft ground the lift got stuck a couple of times and we had an real time getting it out of the mud. Our solution came when we layed bricks from the old chimneys under the wheels to pave a path back to the driveway. I have to admit it was a ball to drive and after much cajoling by the kids I gave each got a ride up to 30' for a view of the neighborhood.
