About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

A little time off

We still have the omarsea! While working on the Liberty Mill project the Omarsea has quietly been taking a break from cruising. This winter wreaked all manor of havoc on her. I winterized the various systems last fall but found that there still was a frozen copper water line onboard that had burst in the extreme cold of the February storms. Birds have made nests and scattered staining berries across the deck. The outboard on the stern became a hive to yellow jackets for a while. Fortunately the strong winter winds ripped away the cover I had over the motor and blew away all remnants of their hive.
