About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Wildcat Propeller Service Fixes the Omarsea's Prop

Last month  we were fortunate to find Troy and his team of experts at the Wildcat propeller shop down in Chesapeake, VA. Jean and I drove the Omarsea's prop down there after I read reviews customers had left online. As we entered the shop we were greeted by a pair of friendly golden labs. Troy came out to meet us and was a wealth of information. He quickly assessed the situation with our prop and taking us back into the shop he showed us how they evaluate a props condition. Using a proprietary software developed by an Australian engineer they scanned our propellers profile into their computer and printed a digital report on it's condition. It seems one of the three blades was badly out of balance and there was from the outside what looked to be considerable electrolysis.  After looking our options over and discussing possibly buying a new prop Troy asked me to leave the prop with him for a few days and he would really examine it closely and see if they could repair it. True to his word the prop was done a couple of days later and they were able to balance the bent blade 99.6% true. The great news was the electrolysis was superficial and they were able to restore it to nearly new condition.  All for $195. I am thrilled with their service and the price. Definitely consider these folks if your boat needs propeller work. You can mail them your prop for fast service if your out of the area. I have also added a link on the site below  called "Best Propeller Service" to the Wildcat site to make it easier .
