About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Omarsea Sailing Update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get your calendars out and block off time next year for a trip to sunny Burmuda! Can you tell I am excited about this? Jean has given me the green light to splash and dash next April to the island of Burmuda. Why April? That's our high pollen season here in Maryland and after this years bout with allergies I am ready to get sailing. April begins the tourist season in Burmuda with big international sailboat racing, festivals and celebrations all over the island.  We are thinking that it would be most comfortable for everyone if a rental property was secured and week long slots scheduled to fill the months of May and June. Those who live in the Washington DC area will have an easier time flying in as BWI offers great flights. To our family and friends out west thinking of coming out for this cruising bonanza check with your favorite airlines and see if they fly through BWI.  Burmuda offers so much to the traveler. It was voted the premier dive destination in 2010 with over 300 shipwrecks. The waters are warm and inviting and the beaches are pink sand.
We will be planning to do many dives using surface supplied air (Hookah) equipment in shallower waters. This equipment can be used by any intermediate swimmer to extend their stay in waters up to 30' deep. This will allow guests to see the reefs and historic shipwrecks up close without the cumbersome weight of dive gear.
St Georges and Hamilton are home to some of the very best shopping. The nightlife is active and carribean in flavor.
There are miles of trails and bike paths that lead to secluded beaches. An excellent public transportation system provides both land and sea (ferryboat) routes.
