About the Omarsea Crew
We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Dog Rescue
Last week a lost dog entered our yard and sought shelter and shade under the big pines in the back. I discovered this when two cars parked on the street out front and strangers began walking through the yard while talking on their cell phones. When I asked them if I could help they told me they had been following a lost dog and had seen it enter our yard. We walked back to within a hundred feet of the dog who paced restlessly near the rear fence. When the kids came rushing out I had to hold Stevie back as the dog started to make a run for it. The dogs owner was out of town and being watched by a friend. The friends wife had mistakenly let the dog out the night before and they had been looking ever since. This was because the dog has diabetes and must receive regular shots or it will go into a coma. They had called the humane society and let them know the dog was missing. When the two people who came into our yard drove up both were on their cell phones with the Humane society. At some point they ID'd the dog as "Jack" and called his sitter who is seen here in the picture with Jack. The dog seemed to be dehydrated and was walking with difficulty. Julianna brought out a bowl of cool water and he drank it all. The sitter took him back home and this should have been a happy ending. But the very next day jack went missing again. The sitter stopped by and asked if he could look in our yard for him. Unfortunately for the sitter Jack was not there. As yet we have not heard anything more about Jack.
