I was working in the yard today when a moderate quake struck. The ground seemed to ripple beneath my feet. When I looked at the house it seemed to be moving sideways away from me. Julianna ran to the window and cried "EarthQuake!" I told the kids to get outside quickly. They came scrambling out the back door and ran over to me. It passed in seconds and there were no more tremors after the big shock.
Later in the day when I walked down to the train station. There two people stopped and talked with me about the quake. Asking if I had felt it? Now this is a big deal here in MD. No one talks to strangers much. They both had been released from work early. One woman ,from DOE, was not allowed back into her building until structural engineers had inspected it. Jean felt the quake down in Rockville. The NRC did let it's staff back in the offices. However the trains were many hours late. Jean fortunately was able to catch a ride with a coworker and made it home a little early. I was down at the train station waiting for her train when she drove up in the car and gave me a ride home. The attached link takes you to the USGS website and has more info on todays quake.
