About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

The Tref's Travel to the Renaissance Fair

The highlight of the month so far has been the Maryland renaissance  festival. We spent the whole day there with friends from Germantown. There was so much too see and do. Theater, jousting, sword fighting, slides, and great live entertainment by a cast from all over the world. People like these folks dressed up in costumes Parents and Kids alike. This pic is from the rennfest website. Stevie and Juli were on stage with some very crazy characters. They even roped me into coming on stage and having some fun. There was Shakespeare of course. Both satyrical and serious.   Stevie was having a ball watching the actors. He wants to get involved with the theater.  Juli and her friend Fiona were dressed in costume and had a great time.  Jean and I even had a chance to sneak off and share a quiet pint of ale together. The weather was cool and overcast. Just perfect for this kind of activity. We walked around looking at all the shops. We found one that made wooden swords. Ben, Stevie and their friend's Artem and Deklan chose the larger English swords. If your ever in Maryland in September make sure to see this place. It really is a merry time.
