About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

These are pics of the solar arch with the panels and the wind gen in place. Last week we hooked up new batteries to a single panel and I am pleased to report we are now officially a green boat!
These are Canadian Solar 245 watt panels managed by a Morning star controller. As you can see in the top pic I am still cleaning up the wiring. The solar can put out a max of about 30-35 amps per hour supplying our electrical needs for refrigeration, lights and pumps. The system was designed by myself based on our daily electrical needs We hope to recoup our investment in terms of energy savings in under 3 years.
