About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

A couple weeks ago I spent 3 days grinding/sanding the old bottom paint off the hull. All eight layers worth. Blessed to have cool weather, the job went smoothly. In the picture, the gray is an epoxy I painted on to prevent gelcoat blisters.
The white upper topside is also an epoxy coating. A primer, made to seal the pores in the old gelcoat, it covers the hundreds of small repairs I made where years of charter use had left dings and scratches. This coming week I will be painting the topsides with a new paint from Interlux.  I will let you know how it turns out. We expect to be finished with the painting by next weekend.
