About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Christmas Onboard

This Christmas things have been a bit chaotic for the Tref's.  We drove down to our new church here in Ft Myers Beach last night only to find it completely chock a block with people. Ben was not breathing well with the incense burning inside so we opted to come back this morning at 10:00. But, when we went to get into the dinghy the outboard motor would not start. When I had it going 15 minutes later we had missed our chance to see the service so we opted for the broadcast over the internet. Yet again we were defeated by technology when the video of the Christmas Mass would not buffer over our wireless connection and we were forced to simply read from our bible about the early days of Jesus's life. It worked our very well as we talked as a family about the many questions we had about Jesus when he was a boy and later a young man.  Jean and I pondered what we would have done if one of the kids had been lost in a big city for three days and then when we found them, they simply looked at us and said "Where else would I be?'.  Ah Kids!!!!
You just have to love them.

  1. Merry Christmas Scott, Jean, Ben, Juli and Steve. Sorry to hear about your troubles on Christmas morning but the less formal and more personal service I think is better. Perhaps it was supposed to be that way.

  2. Hi Guys!
It's already Epiphany and I am just getting caught up on your adventures. You guys seem to personify the right attitude toward "stuckness," a condition necessary to innovation and progress. Glad you finally arrived at a satisfactory way to celebrate Christmas! (It took a lot of determination plus innovation.) Good job!
Happy New Year! We'll look forward to your next post!
