About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Scalloped Potatoes anyone. julianna shows off her latest recipe for us. She is quite the chef and we are beginning to gain back a few pounds here in Fiji.

 Paddling contest at Musket Cove.

Plantation Key had Fireworks one evening. We were blessed to be out on the boat for a front row seat.
These are really beautiful sea stars. They are about 16" across and electric blue. The shallow water is so clear it looks like this one was out of the water when Juli took the picture.
Loads of Sea cucumbers here. These are just some of the shapes and colors they come in. The kids and I spent several mornings at low tide exploring the sand bars and shallows of the reef here on Malolo Lai Lai island.
A juvenile Morey eel. Only about 12" long this little fella was not at all afraid of us and swam over to see what we were.
Steve with a larger sea cucumber. When frightened they throw up their tentacles and stomach. Its a sticky bundle of white threads that take forever to wash off.

Our 23rd Anniversary evening. We seem to have a habit of missing our odd number anniversaries due to work. This year was a great exception. The table where we had dinner was out at the end of a pier on the beach.
They had not started setting it up when we arrived so we went to the bar and had a drink while we waited. The sun was getting low and we watched as it sank toward the sea on the horizon. Just as it touched the horizon there was a bright emerald green flash. What luck!
Jean poses while we watch the sun setting from the beach.
Looking West across the harbor as the sun gets ready to set.
Here is our pier side table with Dick's Place behind Jean. Our waitress was wonderful and the evening just got better and better.

 Where's the food I'm Hungry!
After dinner, a great meal, the amazing sunset we had a surprise. These local musicians came playing down the dock and sang a "Happy Anniversary" song to Jean and I.  It was a perfect way to end the meal. We had the pier to ourselves the whole evening, stayed very late and enjoyed each others company.
