Juli and I were walking the shores of our pond the other day and found this painted turtle basking in the sun. We took it home for an evening to observe it. Making a nice mini-pond out of a large plastic storage bin filled with small stone and water we had a great time watching it swim and crawl about the tank. Knowing a wild turtle is difficult to get to eat in capivity we released it back to the pond the following morning. A very iteresting thing happened. As you can see in the video it swam away from us. But a moment latter turned around and swam back to us. Crawled out of the water up to the kids then as though to say something blinked at us. It did not leave the bank until we walked away. Skipper, as the kids have named him, has some new friends.
About the Omarsea Crew
We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.
