About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

The Trip to Maryland

This was our first trip flying alone on a plane. We hade to get up at 04:00 or as Dad says O Dark 30. Aunt Margaret walked us down to the gate and waited with us in Portland. Juli and Stevie went to wendy's for a french fry breakfast. Ben went to the bakery instead and got a blueberry muffin.
The plane was good. They fed us sandwiches and we had candy to eat. Dad said we could play gameboy the entire time. A whole 5 hours! It was great.
We landed at Washington Dullas airport in Virginia where Mom met us at the Gate. It had been 5 weeks since we last saw her. We gave her big hugs and Stevie said he already missed Margaret, Mary, Grandma and Tony.
We got all our stuff to the car. We had backpacs and duffle bags and suitcases. The car was crammed full of people and bags. On the way we got lost. But Mom found the right way to go. Dad was going to meet us at our new appartment. He and Uncle Mike were at an auction for building materials. They met us at the appartment with a big load of wood and plants on a very rainy cold afternoon. We had some food in the fridge but decided we would go our for pizza instead of cooking. We went pizza hut and got personal mini pizzas. They were good. Then we went home and explored our new place. The beds were inflatable like camping matresses and pretty comfortable. They had air pumps built into them and they pumped up quickly.
Because ther eis a 3 hr time difference we couldnt get to sleep until late. We finally slept at about 11:00 that night. It was wierd to be in a new place and not at Grandma's house anymore. We miss Grandma's.
