About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

2010 A new year

By now we had expected to be cruising the warm waters of the South Pacific. As you know we took a right turn at Albaquerky and wound up in Germantown Maryland. Funny as that sounds this has turned out to be a good change for the Trefethen's. We are spending a good deal of time with my family here on the East coast.
This winter is not without it's own challenges. It seems we have some dues to catch up on before we can move into 19219 Liberty Mill Rd. The weather here has been to put it plainly- COLD! Yesterday I was on the roof tearing down an old chimney that was rotted. The wind relentless as in the Grenadines was wipping the red mortor in my face to the point where I couldn't see anything and the bricks I was hurling were breaking on the frozen ground. Somehow this make memories of going up the mast seem like fun.
We are not just Liming around here Mon. Jean, the kids and I had just finished removing the old insulation from the attic and put down a floor. Our electricians are moving through their job of rewiring the entire house and we have the plumbers scheduled for tomorrow.
This pic shows the home with the old rickety porch removed. Weather permitting we should have the brand new porch by the end of the week. Won't it be great having you all visit this summer and sit out on the porch sipping iced tea.
We still have no heat in the house and I am using a propane torpedo heater to keep the chill off the contractors. These past couple of days the temps ahve been just above freezing in the house. The wind chill outside is down in the teens.
If all goes well we will have drywall in the home by the end of January and the floors, kitchen and bath done by the end of February. We should be moving in about the time March begins to turn from a lion into a lamb.
The kids will be sad to see the snow gone. But, they are the only ones. Give me a warm beach any day!
