About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

2011 Sailing update

Hi everyone. We have been kicking the idea of putting the Omarsea back in the water next summer and sailing to Burmuda. But with her engine out, the rudder 1/2 removed and many of her vital systems not currently working we have decided to instead to complete the repairs and launch later in the year. Our  plan was to head immediately out of Maryland waters for the Carribean. With a stop in the USVI long enough to correct any minor problems and head on toward Panama. We had hoped to have Jean  working Stateside while I and the Kids move the boat. After several weeks apart this year we have decided to postpone the westbound trip for a few years. When we do arrive in Panama we will be visiting the San Blas Islands and the Kuni Natives. Once measured and scheduled for our transit we will make the passage through the Panama canal to the Pacific. I am looking for crew on the leg down to Panama and also through the canal. If you or anyone you know might be interested please contact us via the Omarsea website.

  1. Ahoy Scott! Glad to see Team Tref hasn't slowed a bit. I'm out in California now, full time student and very content.
I may be interested in the sailing leg to Panama, if the timing can be worked out with school, and if I meet OMARSEA's strict salty reputation. Take Care!
