About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Like an Umbrella to the land luber last week we purchased a life raft on Ebay in the hopes we will never need it. I am told the Givens is the cats meow of life rafts. The brand has saved hundreds of lives over the years. A gentleman in Boston had two of these rafts and was getting this one repacked when the facility there where he lives threw away the inflation bottle, food, water, safety knife and lanyards. They also misplaced the fiberglass container the raft was stored in. He shipped it to us last week and we inflated it in the living room to check for leaks. All is sound with the raft which Ben and I have Christened "Bob". We will pack this raft ourselves with new supplies and locate an appropriate valise.
