About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

I've got to fly to Saint Somewhere!

About a month ago Jean asked when I was going to get the Island put together. I was day dreaming about the tropics at the moment and thought she had asked me when I was going to the islands?  An old Buffet song came to mind so I named the island St Somewhere after the line from the Boat Drinks song. Our friend Mike Raddatz gave me an old workbench top made of 2" rock maple. After sanding the dings and bubble gum off it the workbench became our new island top. I sealed the top with West Epoxy. The base is made from a 36"sink cabinet, 3/4" plywood stained a cherry hue and 3 fluted corner posts. I put it together over the past 2 days and we are very pleased with our new Island. As I was putting the finishing touches on it Jean picked up 4 stools so we can have breakfast and lunch here in the kitchen. We are looking forward to Clara, Margaret and Mary Halvorson visiting next month and hope the island will make them feel right at home.
