About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

"Keep Moving Foward"

Thanks to Priscilla Murray, Clara Halvorson and  skills learned from Rich Dad Poor Dad we finally found a  fourplex!. Located in Virginia, this property is a 10 bedroom  rental complex located across the street from a nice beach in the heart of the Ocean View resort community.  Originally slated to go condominium in 2009 the owners went bankrupt and the property came to us via foreclosure and a  helpful local real estate agent Sean Campbell.
While it is now complete on the outside there is room for improvements on the inside. Repairs to drywall, kitchen cabinets and appliances are needed in two of the units. New floors and paint will go a long way with this home as well.  This past weekend we spent visiting the property and getting ready for the upcoming repairs. While the kids walked the beach looking for seaglass and shells Jean and I took measurements and made notes. We found the local library to be amazing. It's brand new building and facilities are geared more toward the electronic age than the written word. This seems to be the trend these days I suppose. The kids walked down there a couple of times and as the weather was very cold ,spent quite a few hours reading new books. The area on the whole reminds me of Carolina beach back in the 90's. The biker bars are closed and the developers are moving in building big expensive beach front homes. While the town is like Carolina Beach the actual sandy beach reminds me of Wrightsville beach when we moved there in 1979. Broad sand dunes leading to a very wide flat beach with smaller waves. While not a great place to go surfing it promises to be an awesome swimming beach and a place for the kids to learn more windsurfing.
Our plan is to put our MD home up for sale in the spring and move the family into the larger lower unit as I get it up to our standards. Jean is planning on telecommuting from there for work.  Then over the summer I will finish off the remaining units and rent them before September.
If anyone would like to visit the beach and has a hankering to swing a hammer let me know :)
