About the Omarsea Crew
We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Solar Arch Update
Believe it or not I had to move the project into the shipping container due to the bugs. We have a healthy crop of gnats this year that won't allow me to work outside. This pic shows the arch nearly complete. Once the welding is finished and I have attached the feet I hope to mount it on the boat the last week of July. This weekend Jean, the kids and I went down to the boat for a mini vacation. They played while I worked on the boat. St. Michaels was having a 4th of July parade and then there is the great swimming pool at the marina. The kids came back all freckled and tan. We had plans to be in Germantown on Sunday and Monday for the holiday, so we drove back Sunday morning. The Boat is coming along well ,though there is going to be more work than summer this year. I pulled off the windlass and the wind generator. Someone had climbed aboard sometime during the last month and switched off the wind generator. Maybe due to the noise it makes. What they didn't know, was that when switched off it places a drain on the batteries. By the time we arrived the ships house batteries were badly depleted. I needed to pull the generator anyway, as its mounting pole is in the way of the new solar arch. I am planning on mounting the wind generator to the new arch once it's installed on the stern. Jean made herself busy by cleaning out the galley and organizing the food stores and pots/pans aboard. With the new bunk mattresses and the inside cleaned it feels more like home once again. Now I just have to finish the engine installation, put the galley island back together, etc, etc etc. Well you get the idea. It is a boat after all :)
