About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Breakfast Companions

Last Wednesday I woke up and went down to get some coffee brewing. I usually open the window shade and look out back to see what the weather is doing. It's an old sailing habit.  This morning the shade was already open and these guys were busy eating the clover just outside the kitchen window. We have many rabbits here this year. Several live under the shed and container. There are also a family of ground hogs with little ones running around the yard. If you will recall the earlier blog with Julianna holding one of the baby bunnies. Those are now nearly full grown. While they will still let you approach fairly close, they are quite skittish of people trying to pick them up. Off and on we have a skunk that walks through the yard and sprays his pepe la pew everywhere. This happens in the evenings when there is a bright moon. We often don't run the AC to conserve energy. We would rather have fans in the windows and the fresh air. It's quite the wake up call when the skunk visits. The kids always sleep right through it. Go figure! Anyway I am always saying the next thing we will see is a bear. A couple of weeks ago, not but a few miles away, a black bear was found. Just a cub and that means there are more in the area. It's just a matter of time before we see them in our little patch of wilderness. If I get a picture I will post it to the blog.
