It's been some time since I have had the chance to sit down and add to our blogs. As my last update indicates there has been a regular surge of visitors here over the past month. My Sister Chris and her family came up from South Carolina just after our Oregon guest departed. We had a great time despite nearly everyone catching a bad flue bug. I am happy to report that all are now relatively healthy here now. Jean received a call from some of our friends from Oregon who now live in Florida. Joe, Noriko and Michele Khune (Julie's old classmate from All Saints). They were in the area visiting Family in DC and dropped by last night. It was very good to see them after more than 5 years. We had dinner on the porch, while the kids ran about playing outside in the cool weather. Noriko is an amazing artist. She displays her work at a gallery in Dunedin, Fl. She is originally from Japan and so focuses on more traditional Japanese subjects like Koi, blossoms and landscapes. As she was speaking with Jean she mentioned the portraits in the hall of the kids done by Margaret Halvorson. She said they were exquisite and that the artist does amazing work. Kudos to you Margaret! I love passing those pictures each time I walk down the hall. They really capture the kids.
In other news Stevie is nearly a First class scout and Benjamin in nearly Star. They are planning what classes to take at summer camp in June. Ben is looking forward to a metal smithing class that has the kids working with hammers, anvils and live forges. I may have to think up some wrought iron projects for him to do for the house.
Juli is not being left out of summer camp. Her 4h group is going to camp in July and they are looking at all kinds of fun activities. I got the chance to see her stand next to her tall friend Fiona for the first time in over a month and I was surprised to see that Juli has gone through quite the growth spurt. Fiona no longer towers over her and in fact Juli appears to be only an inch or so shorter. This is good news as Juli was just lamenting her height the other day. Ben, has also grown and looks to pass me sometime in the summer. Stevie, still thin, has sprouted and is racing to catch up to Ben.
Jean and I are very busy this spring. With all the visiting over we are focusing on getting the details finished in the house. There is a fair bit of painting, trim work and tile grouting still to be done. Plus we are looking at a big spring cleaning and generally getting rid of some of this stuff we have gathered. It is good to purge once and a while!
Fair Winds
