About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Tropical Storm Sandy

Storm update:  It looks like we are going to be up close and personal with TS Sandy. Sometime late Sunday night the storm is expected to drop her moisture here on the eastern shore of Maryland. I was just speaking with Pat the Marina manager. He feels that though we will see a lot of rainfall we should not see excessive storm surge. I agree with Pat, as the storms winds will be blowing the water out of the Chesapeake not up it with it's counter clockwise rotation. This graphic was generated by the US Navy FNMOC's weather site. It shows the storm as it may look Sunday at Midnight. The darker areas are where winds in excess of 50 mph may be found. Any way it plays out we are planning a party for Sunday evening to ride out the storm here at the dock. If we have internet I will try to put out an update on our situation. Batten down the hatches!
