I've found that reading material is crucial for happy cruising. If you don't have anything to read, it can be pretty boring on long passages offshore or on rainy days. On our first trip in the Caribbean, we had pretty good luck at the book exchanges. These are places where cruisers castoff the books they have read for others to enjoy. Mostly these are murder mysteries, detective novels and spy stuff.  It was not until we arrived back in the states that we had  access to a  library with real teen books. I love the Library.
The real  trick for me is to get books I like to read over and over again!  Some books that I  like are the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan.  Another is BEYONDERS by Brandon Mull. The books by Tamora Pierce are phenomenal by my standards, but my Brothers would not agree with me. They like books like The HATCHET  by Gary Paulson. I have read it but it wouldn't be the thing to read over and over for me. For this series of voyages Mom purchased  kindles for us. They are very convenient. to store electronic books on. The books cost much less than the paper versions and living aboard I really appreciate the small space it takes up as my room is getting a little crowded.  There are hundreds of books available for the kindle at no cost. Jules Vern, Daniel Defoe, Robert Louis Stevenson and many other classic authors are free to download.  Books are a great way to have fun and life aboard the Omarsea is much merrier with a good book and a warm afternoon to read it.
