About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

Loan Scouting Program

The boys and Jean have arranged for their Boy Scout troop #489 to loan us their flag for our voyage. This is the first of a series of pictures we hope to take with the flag in locations we visit. Here the boys have hoisted the flag over the Omarsea and can be seen on deck in their summer uniforms. Both of the guys plan to continue advancement with their troop until reaching Eagle Scout. Ben is ranked as a Star Scout and is working toward his Life.  Steve is ranked as 1st Class and is working toward his Star rank. It is harder for them to achieve these ranks without the weekly aid and assistance of their troop and it's  meetings. The boys miss the camping events and seeing the other scouts each Monday night. Fortunately for all concerned we have several years in which to complete the program. We look forward to working with them on the emergency preparedness merit badge next year. As crew members they will be asked to prepare the boat for offshore emergencies, including medical, dental, abandon ship and shipboard fires.
