About the Omarsea Crew

We are the Trefethens. After 10 years of planning we decided to sell our home and buy a sailboat. In November 2007 we departed Portland Oregon for the Virgin Islands and our 50 foot sloop the OMARSEA. Our three children Ben, Juli and Steve are enjoying the benefits of being homeschooled. Join us on our continuing adventures as we explore the East coast of America on the way to New Zealand.

We have Moved!

After 10 weeks of frantic work the Tref's have moved in! It has been so crazy due to the incedent we had in March with our local building inspector. We had been given the impressionthat we could move in and then finish many of the details inside and out over time. However our electrical contractor chose to call for a final inspection in March and the county inspector left the property very angry that we had wasted his time. His comments to me were that if we ever wanted to live in the house, all the work had to be done and that we could not move anything in until that time. What a blow that was. We were running out of time with the arrangement with the bank. We had until the end of May some 12 weeks off. So we called in the help and got down to work.

This is my brother Greg ripping out the old brick steps in order to build the new front porch steps. He loves power tools as much as I do. Working crazy hours, with Jean providing meals, extra hands and logistics with materials we battled through tearing up the kitchen floor and laying a new one. Installing the cabinets and appliances. Sanding the floors and refinishing them. Greg removed 48 window panes just from the sleeping porch alone and he and Jean put in 48 new panes, caulked them and painted all 24 sashes. The window work went on for what seemed forever. We installed 12 new windows throughout the house and restored 11 old windows that were "Historic".
Here is our lovely banister with all its railings and balusters. Jean spent days on this and it came out great! While she was working on the inside railings I was fabricating the front porch rails. The front porch seemed to take me forever to complete what with the roofing, staining the decking, painting and painting and still more painting. But after all that it is glorious to sit out there on a cool evening and enjoy the outdoors again.
I have lots more photos to share with you so check back again in a week or so for updates.
Fairwinds and smooth seas.
