Ahoy All. Some of you like to keep up to date on whats happening with the Omarsea. This week has been really busy with Home school and housework so the boat repairs are coming along slower than I would like.
I have nearly finished the rudder. I had to glass a 1/8" bushing around the lower bearing to compensate for the gap between the two metal bushings there. A significant wobble had developed in the rudder when we made it back to the States.
The solar arch is taking place nicely. After hiring a welding instructor for a day I have begun to master the fine art of TIG welding. Though still not an expert I can make two pieces of metal stay together and look good.
The Motor is nearly done. I have a couple of errant bolts to find and install and there is some hose work yet to be done.
The Thruhulls are finished!!! I had to cut out some 14 of them. I have replaced 10 with new bronze pieces. The remaining four I will not replace as I have taken both heads on the Port side out of the boat and the associated thruhulls are no longer needed.
The new bow rail is finished and installed. I will be making up a new dodger frame and bimini frame this spring as time permits.
The biggest question right now is the rigging. With the failure of the bolt to the backstays and subsequent cables crashing to the deck all the wire rigging is suspect. Normally to replace these you would pull the mast. But the way the boat is constructed the mast is secured with three rusted bolts that are countersunk in places that are very hard to reach. I am in a quandary as to how the rigging will be replaced. I will be speaking with a professional rigger in the next week about what to do.
I can't wait until all these big jobs are done so I can just go down to the boat and putter around with things like new batteries, solar panels and refrigeration!
